The Why of Switch Thinking

The World Is instant.

Or at least it feels like it is.

It even feels redundant to say this.

But texts are instant, information on X for example is almost instant (often wrong but that is another matter).

Your phone calls and most people expect an instant response.

You can use Generative AI and the responses on even complex matters is within seconds.

Changes in policy among the larger countries almost feels instant (I am thinking of course of President Trump).

We are all operating in an instant world.

And yet many of the personal development approaches we use take time.

Think of say:

Coaching.

Therapy.

Meditation.

Journaling.

Habit building.

Reflection.

These all work.

But they also have one thing in common.

They take time.

You might spend months building a habit.

Or weeks developing a new mindset.

Perhaps years becoming a better leader.

Even brainstorming with others takes time to organise and run.

These are all valuable approaches as they can lead to lasting change.

But they all take time.

I call this the Personal Development Gap.

It’s the gap between the world we live in and the time needed for many of the personal development approaches.

We now live in a world that expects us to think, decide and adapt almost instantly.

What if you’re about to walk into an interview and you are feeling incredibly anxious?

Or you’ve just received difficult feedback?

Or you’re standing up to make a presentation and you cannot focus?

Or you’re feeling overwhelmed with a request from your boss?

Or you’re becoming frustrated with your children when you walk through the door after a hard day at work?

Or your confidence suddenly disappears when you stand up in front of your team?

Those moments don’t arrive next week.

They arrive now.

And most of us have very few practical tools for changing how we think in that moment.

But here’s the interesting question.

Have our thinking tools kept pace?

The Gap

This is the gap that I believe Switch Thinking can fill.

Why?

Because Switch Thinking is built around 2 minute thinking bursts.

There are switches to help you get unstuck, see new possibilities and even change how you feel.

It’s a tool kit which can be used every day – 2 minutes at a time.

It’s not a replacement for coaching or therapy for example.

Not as another self-improvement program.

Instead, Switch Thinking fills the space between life’s fast-moving moments and the longer-term tools that help us create, change, learn and grow.

It is the Why of Switch Thinking.

It’s why i believe everyone should learn this fat, easy and practical skill.

The goal of Switch Thinking is to create movement.

For example, It could be:

A new question.

A different perspective.

Challenging an assumption.

Or a fresh way of seeing another person.

The emphasis is on creating and responding in the moment.

When it really matters.

It’s about operating successfully in an instant world.

And the only thing you can count on is the world will not be slowing down – it will only accelerate.

Do you have the skills to thrive in an instant world?

You can start in the next 2 minutes.
